Lunsar, Sierra Leone, Marampa Mines Limited had the honor of hosting His Excellency Mr. Ousmane Sonko, Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal, and His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, for an official visit to its iron ore mining site in Lunsar, Northern Province, on Tuesday. The high-level visit highlights the strategic significance of the Marampa operation within the regional mining industry and its contribution to broader economic development in West Africa.
The distinguished delegation included senior government officials from Sierra Leone, such as Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Umaru Napoleon Koroma, as well as local leaders from the host communities. They were received by senior executives of Marampa Mines and given a guided tour of key operational facilities, including the newly commissioned primary crusher with a processing capacity of 3,000 tons per hour, and the final concentrate production plant.
Ms. Aminata Kamara, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Marampa Mines, warmly welcomed the guests and acknowledged the crucial support of the local Paramount Chiefs and host communities. “We are part of a community, and we deeply value the collaboration and support of our host communities in the Marampa and Maforki Chiefdoms,” she said.
Basudeb Datta, Operations Director at Marampa Mines, provided an overview of the company’s technical operations and achievements since it commenced operations in 2021. “It is a privilege to showcase the significant advancements we’ve made by applying best practice mining principles. We are extremely proud of our high-grade iron ore concentrate, which has a Fe content of 65.3%,” he noted.
The tour also highlighted Marampa Mines’ commitment to safety and sustainability. The delegation was accompanied throughout by trained site personnel and emergency response teams to ensure full compliance with safety protocols.
Speaking during the visit, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh emphasized the vast economic potential of Sierra Leone’s mineral resources. “We are here at Marampa Mines to showcase to the Prime Minister the extensive mineral wealth of Sierra Leone. Senegal has gas, we have iron ore the question is how to build synergy between our resources to lay a foundation for industrialization, create jobs for our youth, and increase national revenue. That is the core objective.”
This visit marks a significant step forward in regional cooperation and demonstrates the critical role of responsible mining in driving sustainable economic growth, employment, and infrastructure development in Sierra Leone and the broader West African region.
