In a powerful display of international medical cooperation, the 8th Chinese Military Medical Expert Group, deployed from China, joined forces with Leone Rock Metal Group to provide critical free healthcare services to residents of Simiria Chiefdom in rural Sierra Leone.
The outreach initiative, based in Sokoya Village, served as a lifeline for communities with limited access to professional medical care. The response was overwhelming: more than 120 villagers from Sokoya and nearby settlements received comprehensive medical consultations, essential treatments, and vital health screenings. All consultations and medications were provided entirely free of charge* by the Chinese military doctors.
Traveling thousands of miles to serve on the frontlines of rural healthcare, the Chinese medical team treated a wide range of conditions, including *malaria, injuries, cellulitis, epilepsy, fractures, hypertension, oral tumors, joint inflammation, spinal deformities, anemia, cataracts, and reproductive health issues. Their expert diagnoses and compassionate care were warmly welcomed by the local community and traditional leaders.
On-site, the medical team ensured that no patient was turned away, exemplifying their humanitarian mission to “heal the wounded and save the dying.” Their unwavering dedication reflects a deep commitment to the health and well-being of Sierra Leone’s underserved populations.
Dr. Shi Lei, a representative of the Chinese Medical Team, shared the group’s motivation:
“We traveled over 600 kilometers to bring medical care, essential medicines, and health support directly to the villages of Sierra Leone. Our aim is to assist the people in rural areas who need medical help the most. This embodies the international humanitarian spirit of the Chinese military doctors and our deep friendship toward the people of Sierra Leone.”
Leone Rock Metal Group, a long-standing development partner in the region, emphasized its dedication to community well-being. “Our operations are deeply rooted in the communities we serve, and we recognize the fundamental importance of healthy populations,” said a company spokesperson. “Partnering with the esteemed Chinese Military Medical Expert Group for this outreach is a key part of our corporate social responsibility efforts.”
Local leaders expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support. “The arrival of the Chinese military doctors is a true blessing,” said a village elder. “Their expertise, compassion, and the free medicines they brought are invaluable to us. We are immensely thankful to both the Chinese doctors and Leone Rock for remembering our needs.”
This successful collaboration underscores the power of international partnerships in addressing urgent healthcare challenges in Sierra Leone’s remote areas. The dedication of the Chinese Military Medical Expert Group, who bridged great distances to offer free, expert, and compassionate care, stands as a testament to the enduring China–Sierra Leone friendship and shared commitment to humanitarian service.\
