Driver Granted Bail in Motorbike Fraud Case

Twenty-seven-year-old Alpha Turay, a driver, appeared before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura at Pademba Road Court No. 4 in Freetown on a charge of fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, at Bah Junction, Gbendembu Goderich in the Western Area of Freetown, Alpha Turay fraudulently converted to his own use a Yamaha Boxer 150 motorbike with registration number AOF 154, valued at eighteen thousand Leones (Le 18,000). The motorbike was entrusted to him by Brima Sannoh for delivery to Sannoh’s residence at #1 Sannoh Drive, Juba Hill, Freetown.

When the charge was read and explained, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sergeant 1306 Augusta B. Sesay, requested a short adjournment to call her next witness.

Magistrate Samura granted bail to the accused in the sum of twenty-five thousand Leones (Le 25,000) with one surety of a like amount. The surety must be an ordinary resident of the Western Area in Freetown and must produce a valid identity card showing their address. Bail approval is subject to the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The case was adjourned to 2nd June 2025 for further hearing.
