In a bold step toward transforming its educational system, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has entered into a strategic partnership with U.S.-based technology firm Agilix Labs to establish the Future Learning Institute (FLI) a cutting-edge initiative designed to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher and vocational education across the country.

The landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Technical and Higher Education, *Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, and Curt Allen, President and CEO of Agilix Labs, during the 2025 Education World Forum (EWF) at Lancaster House in London. The EWF is the world’s premier annual gathering of education ministers and global education policymakers.

Through the FLI, Sierra Leone aims to build a digitally powered learning ecosystem that equips both students and educators with the tools, skills, and systems required to thrive in a 21st-century, knowledge-based economy. The institute will utilize Agilix’s advanced AI platforms including the globally recognized Buzz and TutorKit to deliver personalized tutoring, AI-generated assessments, digital content creation, and intelligent instructional support.

Under the terms of the MoU, Agilix Labs will provide the technical infrastructure, training, and implementation support for the Institute. Meanwhile, the Ministry will oversee the national rollout, coordinate resources, and ensure alignment with Sierra Leone’s broader educational reform agenda.

Minister Wurie described the initiative as a “transformational leap” toward inclusive, innovative, and future-oriented education for all Sierra Leoneans. “This partnership affirms our belief that education must evolve with the demands of the 21st century. It also reflects our commitment to innovation, equity, and excellence,” she said.

Agilix CEO Curt Allen commended Sierra Leone’s forward-thinking leadership, stating that the country’s vision aligns with Agilix’s mission to democratize access to quality education through technology. “We are excited to co-create the Future Learning Institute with Sierra Leone and support a nation determined to lead Africa’s educational transformation,” he remarked.

The Future Learning Institute is poised to become a regional hub for educational innovation, enhancing Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a knowledge center in West Africa. The initiative also aligns with the national development goals championed by President Julius Maada Bio, who has consistently prioritized education as the cornerstone of long-term socio-economic advancement.

With this groundbreaking partnership, Sierra Leone sets a powerful example for how nations can harness AI to build resilient, adaptive, and future-ready education systems.
