Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, visited the Gbalamuya border crossing between Sierra Leone and Guinea, where he engaged with John B. Amara, Assistant Commissioner of Border Controls and Management at the National Revenue Authority (NRA), and his team at Gbalamuya Border, Kambia District, Tuesday, 26th March 2025.
The meeting provided a detailed overview of the border control protocols in place, emphasizing the critical importance of securing national borders while facilitating lawful trade and travel.
The discussions focused on the need for a unified, inter-sectoral approach to border security. While existing protocols have been effective, tackling transnational crimes, such as drug and human trafficking, requires enhanced cooperation. This involves closer collaboration between government agencies, including police, customs, immigration, and intelligence services, along with improved information-sharing.
“This is a significant step in strengthening our border management systems. It is in our collective interest to safeguard our people, resources, and nation from transnational threats,” stated Attorney General Alpha Sesay.
The visit underscored the importance of intelligence-sharing and cross-border collaboration in addressing illegal activities that impact Sierra Leone and the broader West African region. Attorney General Sesay emphasized that securing the country’s borders requires the collective effort of government officials, law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
The visit to Gbalamuya served as a timely reminder of the ongoing need to reinforce border security and foster inter-agency cooperation, ensuring Sierra Leone’s borders remain secure and protected from criminal activity.
The discussions reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving security and protecting citizens from transnational threats.
