Ibrahim Jalloh, a 32-year-old driver, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, Jalloh is accused of stealing from a Ford Escape Jeep, with registration number ANY 386, at Furniture Allen Town in the Western Area of Freetown in December 2024. The stolen items include the sum of 1,400 United States dollars (equivalent to 33,600 Leones) and 1,800 Leones in physical cash, totaling 35,400 Leones. The property belonged to Ishmail Kamel Zayat.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai presented the first prosecution witness, Ishmail Kamel Zayat, a contractor, who identified Jalloh as his former driver. Zayat recalled that in December 2024, Jalloh had informed him that he had just been released from prison and had sores on his feet. Jalloh asked for assistance, and Zayat went to his vehicle to exchange some dollars to take the accused to the hospital. At this point, the prosecutor requested a short adjournment to confer further with his witness.
Magistrate Kekura refused bail and remanded the accused at the male correctional facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 28th March 2025.
