The Sierra Leone Women’s Basketball Team celebrated International Women’s Day in grand style with a basketball clinic and exhibition match, highlighting the growth and potential of women’s basketball in the country.
The event was graced by key basketball officials, including Sierra Leone Basketball President Ali Hazji, Secretary General Ishmaila Bangura, League Committee Secretary General Tejan, and Ambassador of Sport Charlie Bio. Their presence underscored the importance of developing and promoting female athletes in the sport.
Director of Women’s Basketball Nathalie Reshard Mansaray and Coach Bassey led the clinic, teaching young players the fundamentals of basketball while also emphasising the significance of Women’s Day in sports and society. Parents and supporters filled the venue, cheering on the girls as they displayed their skills on the court.
A major highlight of the event was the recognition of five standout players Kadijah Jalloh, Esther Sannoh, Kadijatu Bah, Isha Jalloh, and Mariama Barrie who received Elite Player Recognition Certificates for their outstanding performances. Director Mansaray expressed confidence in the country’s basketball talent, stating, “Sierra Leone has great potential; we just need to nurture and train these players to reach the highest level.”
The event not only celebrated women in sports but also reinforced the commitment to strengthening women’s basketball in Sierra Leone.
