Senesie Financial and Insurance Company (SENEFICO), one of Sierra Leone’s leading insurance firms, has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing social impact and financial security to its customers through comprehensive insurance services.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the company’s head office on 104 Campbell Street, Freetown, SENEFICO’s Managing Director, Michael Kuti George, emphasised the critical need for increased insurance awareness in the country. Addressing journalists via video link, he highlighted the low uptake of fire insurance and the legal requirements stipulated in the Insurance Act of 2016.

“Having worked in The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and the United Kingdom, I have observed that many individuals and businesses overlook the importance of insurance, particularly fire insurance. Section 21 of the Insurance Act of 2016 mandates compulsory insurance for tenantable and public properties against fire. Property owners must comply to ensure financial protection,” George stated.

He further educated customers on employers’ legal obligation to provide insurance coverage for their employees, stressing that compliance is essential for mitigating financial risks in unforeseen circumstances.

Providing a statistical analysis of fire accidents in Sierra Leone, George revealed that the country recorded only four fire incidents in 2020, but the number surged to 55 in 2021, 120 in 2022, and 84 in 2023. He assured customers that SENEFICO is ready to provide reliable insurance services and promptly settle claims.

Chief Project Officer Moses Senesie underscored the company’s rapid growth in the insurance industry, stating, “Though we are a new entity, we have positioned ourselves as a trusted insurance provider, delivering top-tier services within a short period.”

He elaborated on the diverse insurance products SENEFICO offers, including motor, agriculture, renters, and fire insurance. “Our motor insurance provides comprehensive protection against accidents, theft, and damages. For farmers, our agriculture insurance safeguards crops and livestock from unpredictable weather, pests, and other risks. Renters’ insurance, on the other hand, offers personal property and liability coverage in case of fire, theft, or other unexpected events,” Senesie explained.

Technical Operations Director, Foday Conteh, reassured customers that SENEFICO provides extensive coverage across various sectors, including fire and special perils insurance, general accident and miscellaneous business insurance, and marine hull and cargo insurance.

Closing the event, SENEFICO’s Marketing Manager, Mozetta Suma, emphasised the company’s dedication to customer education and accessibility to insurance information. “Our mission is to ensure that every customer fully understands the benefits of insurance and can access the right coverage at any time,” she affirmed.

With a firm commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, SENEFICO is poised to revolutionise Sierra Leone’s insurance landscape, offering individuals and businesses reliable financial protection against unforeseen risks.
