European Union Ambassador Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Security Cooperation with Sierra Leone

The European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, has held a crucial meeting with Honorable Morie Lengor Esq, the newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in security and governance, vital components for the stability and development of Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Jankowski emphasised the EU’s ongoing commitment to supporting Sierra Leone in various critical areas. Key topics included maritime security, cybersecurity, law enforcement, civil registration, and the reintegration of migrants. Given the complex security landscape in West Africa, these areas are essential for fostering a safe and secure environment for all citizens.

Ambassador Jankowski reiterated that the EU views Sierra Leone as a strategic partner in the region and is dedicated to enhancing the country’s capacity to address security challenges.

He also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to combat transnational crimes, including human trafficking and drug smuggling, which pose significant threats to regional stability.

Minister Lengor expressed gratitude for the EU’s continuous support and emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing national security. He maintained  the need for effective governance and law enforcement to ensure the safety of all Sierra Leoneans.

The minister also highlighted the importance of civil registration in promoting accountability and transparency within the government.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Sierra Leone and the EU, reinforcing a shared commitment to building a secure and prosperous future. As both parties work together towards common goals, the partnership is expected to play a vital role in addressing the multifaceted security challenges facing the nation and the broader region.
