One of the November 26, 2023, fugitives from the Port Loko Police Station, Saccoh Kamara, who was recaptured in October 2024, has been sent to 12 years in prison.

Kamara, 43 years, a Gardener, was before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Court on a count of escape from legal custody following a failed coupé attempt on November 26, 2023, in Freetown during which maximum prisons, including the Male Correctional Center at Pademba Road in Freetown and many other correctional facilities across the country, were broken into and most of the inmates escaped custody.

According to police prosecutor Sergeant Momoh Lahai, the fugitive Kamara, an inmate remanded in custody at the Port Loko Male Correctional Center, escaped custody together with other inmates on November 26, 2023, and had been in hiding until he was recaptured and charged to court on October 26, 2024.

The police report states that a joint team of regional and divisional police personnel led by the Operations Officer (OPs) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Kargbo in the North-West Region arrested Kamara on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Marinka Village in Kasseh Chiefdom in PortLoko District based on a list of wanted persons which was published in which Kamara’s picture and name were printed.

When the file was read and explained to him, Kamara pleaded guilty and disclosed to the court that he escaped with others and was within the PortLoko District until his arrest. Magistrate Kekura sentenced Kamara to 12 months at the Male Correctional Center in Freetown.
