Twenty-year-old Abdulai Kamara, a Bike rider, has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment. The accused made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on a count of Escape from lawful police custody contrary to section 23 of the Criminal Procedure Act 179 of the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the particulars of the offense on June 1, 2024, at Congo Cross police station, the western area in Freetown, a charged prisoner awaiting trial did escape from police custody.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 17649 Kargbo B, told the Magistrate that there was a charge and no available records against the accused person.
The accused pleaded with the magistrate to temper justice with mercy on his behalf. According to him, he was in the custody of the police officers. All of them left him at the office, and later, a police officer came and gave him money to buy water. He took advantage and escaped
Due to the accused person’s plea mitigation and his not wasting court time, magistrate Kekura sentenced him to twelve months imprisonment in the male correctional facility in Freetown.
