Bo Rangers have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League qualifiers after a 1-0 defeat to San Pedro in Ivory Coast on 25th August 2024.
With the first leg ending 1-1 in Bo last week, San Pedro’s win allowed them to progress to the next round.
Bo Rangers’ head coach, John Keister, reflected on the missed opportunities: “We have ourselves to blame for not taking advantage of our chances at home. The same issue occurred here in Ivory Coast; we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities.
“If we had secured a result at home, today’s match might have been different. San Pedro didn’t have many clear chances, but our one mistake proved costly. It’s frustrating.”
“This problem extends beyond Bo Rangers and affects Sierra Leone football as a whole. Look at FC Kallon, Mogbewmo Queens, and East End Lions’ results. We have to improve on our international performance as a country.”
San Pedro’s head coach, Maxime Gouamene, commended his team’s performance, describing their win as the ‘most important’ thing.
“The first half was tough as Bo Rangers didn’t allow us to play. However, my tactical changes in the second half helped us secure the win.
“I am satisfied with the result at home; that’s the most important thing. Now we need to prepare for the next stage of the qualifiers.”
Bo Rangers will return to Sierra Leone on Monday.
In the other match East End Lions FC lost ASC Jaraaf FC by three goals to nil in their second leg match of CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary stage in Dakar Senegal.
The team faced elimination from their Senegalese side by four goals to nil in both matches in the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary stage.
Both teams from Sierra Leone were knock out of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Preliminary stages which has raised concerns among Football fans in Sierra Leone.
