In a decisive operation on Sunday morning 25th August 2024, law enforcement officials stationed at the Fallah checkpoint along the Bo-Taiama Highway apprehended two individuals transporting a substantial quantity of Kush, an illegal drug, concealed in a black plastic bag. The suspects, identified as Sullay Bayoh and Nyakeh Vandi, both residents of 94B Wilkinson Road, Freetown, were intercepted while traveling in a black, tinted vehicle with the registration number AWQ 115.
The arrest, which occurred around 11:44 a.m., was executed by Detective Police Constable 18286 Patrick Mohamed Ngobeh and Military Police officer Corporal Kanu, also known by his alias, SIB. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle during a routine checkpoint operation, the officers uncovered the hidden drugs. Immediately following the discovery, the Bo West Division operations team was notified to provide additional support, ensuring the safe transportation of the suspects for further questioning by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU).
During the initial interrogation, Nyakeh Vandi admitted to distributing Kush to various locations, including Dodo and Kasama villages in Tikonko Chiefdom, Bo District. Both suspects, along with the confiscated drugs, are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.
This successful interception is one of many recent drug-related arrests made at the Fallah checkpoint, underscoring the heightened vigilance and strategic enforcement efforts led by the Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Mr. Brima Kanneh. AIG Kanneh, who has taken a strong stance against the proliferation of illegal substances, emphasized that drugs like Kush significantly contribute to the surge in common crimes within the region. He reassured the public that all individuals implicated in drug trafficking and related offences would be prosecuted without bias.
AIG Kanneh’s persistent efforts to combat the illegal drug trade are gaining traction, reflecting his commitment to maintaining law and order in communities across the Southern Province. His leadership continues to inspire confidence among residents, reinforcing the message that criminal activities will not be tolerated and that the safety and security of the public remain a top priority.
