7-year-old Ibrahim Kamara living in the RTI Section was reported to have drowned in a stream that stretches between RTI and Bruma 4 Sections in Kenema, Eastern region. The incident occurred on Tuesday 20th August 2024 at 17 hours.
The mother of the deceased Madam Kumba Kamara lamented that her son left the house to visit his friend where they usually play together. Unfortunately, she got information about the drowning of her son about 15 minutes after he left the house.
Residents affirmed that the death of the boy was due to the poor makeshift wooden bridge that shares boundary between the communities in Kenema, which had overtime forced residents of both communities making pleas to the mayor of Kenema City Council, the Councillors for the construction of a culvert or well to protect the bridge over the stream.
As according to the residents this will ease the movement of people on several occasions but the pleas fell on deaf ears.
However, the neglect has brought serious criticism from the general public; where a number of people were hoping that the incident would lead to a swift resolution in finding a remedy to for prevent any further damage or loss of lives.
