The Teaching Service Commission in Kailahun District has conducted the teacher’s registration and licenses examination for more than four hundred pin and non- pin coded teachers in kailahun District.
The exercise according to the Deputy director of the Teaching Service Commission kailahu District, Stella Ansumana is part of the commission’s mandate to register and licensing all teachers and to annually maintain and upgrade all licensed teachers thus publishing the registered teachers in the gazette through the teachers license unit, nothing that the process is mandatory for every teacher in the country to take the license examination.
The insurance of licenses to teachers in the country hinges on their best performance in the said examination and the non -pin teachers taking the examination will be recruited based on their performance in the examination.
Asked to know if the license examination will not serve as an impediment to most teachers` recruitment in Sierra Leone? Stella Ansumana responded that the commission’s Act of 2011 made provision for the commission to register and gazette licensed teachers which She maintained is one of the primary functions of the commission.
She noted that many teachers in kailahun who sat to the examination performed exceptionally well thus the commission on 26th July recruited at least twenty teachers that were selected among the non-pin coded teachers in kailahun sat to the examination and are now only awaiting approval. Madam Ansumana pointed out that the exercise is a way to pay role for non-pin teachers who have taken the examination in kailahun and the country as a whole.
Talking on the qualifications for a teacher to be part 0f the examination, D D Ansumana as she is commonly called, noted that the commission is more focused on the teaching certificate followed by registration approval.
The results of the examination she said would be sent through the respective emails of those that sat to the examination. In a similar development the same commission in kono District has also conducted similar examination for the aforementioned teachers. Meanwhile, sources say, the atmosphere in which the examination was conducted would serve as an impediment to the recruitment of teachers in kono District and the country by extension.
