In an exclusive interview on Africa Young Voices television’s morning show, “Wake up Sierra Leone,” Retired Major General David Taluva disclosed harrowing details of a coup attempt that transpired on November 26th, 2023, resulting in the loss of military personnel lives. The retired officer’s revelations shed light on a sinister plot aimed at overthrowing the legitimate government of President Bio, orchestrated by what he described as “bad soldiers” within the military ranks.
Minister of Internal Affairs, speaking in response to Taluva’s disclosures, underscored the gravity of the situation, attributing the failed coup to a concerted effort to destabilize the nation’s governance structure. The Minister emphasized that the perpetrators, regardless of tribal or political affiliations, would face the full force of the law. He condemned their actions as a blatant attempt to disrupt the peace and stability of Sierra Leone.
Taluva, a seasoned military figure, reiterated the importance of the military’s role in safeguarding the government and preserving national security. He emphasized the betrayal of the army’s oath by individuals who sought to sow chaos and discord within the country. The retired Major General highlighted heightened security measures implemented by the security sectors, particularly in response to rumors of impending unlawful protests by certain civilian groups.
In light of these developments, Taluva assured the public that there is no cause for panic, affirming the commitment of authorities to uphold peace and stability throughout the nation. As investigations continue and arrests are made, Sierra Leone remains vigilant against any threats to its democratic governance and societal harmony.
