The EU-Salone Bus Tour, accompanied by Bo District Council Chairman Victor Korseh Hindowa, Chief Administrator Abdul Koroma, and various administrative officials and councilors, made a significant stop in Bo District on Thursday, 16th May 2024, to promote peace and development initiatives. A key highlight of the tour was a visit to the Bo School of Midwifery, an essential institution in the fight against maternal and infant mortality.

Established in 2017 with support from the German NGO Action Medeor and the German Government, the Bo School of Midwifery has been pivotal in training over 700 midwives and health practitioners. This training has had a profound impact on maternal and infant health in Sierra Leone, with maternal mortality rates dropping from 1,360 per 100,000 live births in 2013 to 510 in 2023, and infant mortality rates decreasing from 92 per 1,000 live births in 2013 to 75 in 2023.

The event concluded with a cultural performance at the regional Motor Drivers Union office in Bo City. Various stakeholders, including Bo District Council Chairman Victor Korseh Hindowa, delivered speeches highlighting the positive impact of these initiatives. The program ended with a vote of thanks from Chief Administrator Abdul Koroma on behalf of the two councils in Bo.

Germany’s support for Sierra Leonean healthcare initiatives has been instrumental in saving the lives of women and children, significantly improving the overall healthcare delivery system in the country.
