Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has convened a crucial Energy Task Force (ETF) Status Meeting to tackle pressing issues in Sierra Leone’s energy sector. The meeting focused on sustaining recent improvements and enhancing service delivery.
Dr. Sengeh emphasized the complexity of the challenges faced by the sector but remained optimistic about overcoming them. He urged stakeholders to maximize their professional, technical, and administrative efforts to support President Julius Maada Bio’s energy policy objectives.
Key agenda items included updates on the engagement with Karpowership in Istanbul, follow-up actions from the previous ETF meeting, and administrative and operational updates from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC). The meeting also reviewed EDSA’s revenue generation and mobilization, ongoing energy projects, and financial and technical operational reviews.
Deputy Energy Minister I, Dr. Eldred Taylor, briefed the Chief Minister on the recent Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact negotiations in the United States. Dr. Taylor reported the delegation’s trip as successful, noting the signing ceremony and the promising prospects of the Compact. He assured that its full implementation would significantly transform the energy sector.
As the energy sector is closely tied to the Feed Salone agenda, reforms continue to drive progress in both areas. The government’s commitment to these reforms underscores its dedication to sustainable energy solutions and overall development in Sierra Leone.
