The Mayor of the Koidu New Sembehun City Council says the council has not received funds from District Administrative chiefdom fund over two years. His worship, Mayor Komba Mathew Sam made the statement at the Gbense N.A Administrative barray during a meeting organized by Seawright Mining Company to pay the surface rent to three (3) chiefdoms: Kamara, Tankoro and Gbense respectively.
Mayor Komba Mathew Sam put the blame on the Ministry of Mines and the National Mineral Agency for not doing much for the council to have funding to undertake development activities in the city for the past two years.
According to him, the council through the Ministry of Mines Act has the rights to receive funds every year from the DACDF fund through the Ministry. He however promised to utilize the 15% given to the council from Seawright Company as surface rent payment to the chiefdom. The total payments for the three (3) chiefdoms was eight hundred million Leones (Le 800,000,000), 80% went to Gbense while 10% to Kamara and 10% Tankoro Chiefdom respectively.
