Kambia District Council Unveils € 2.5 Million EU Project

In a landmark event heralding a pivotal stride towards progress and prosperity, the Kambia District Council, in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, unveiled a transformative €2.5 million European Union project on April 17, 2024. The initiative garnered widespread acclaim and gratitude from the community as they gathered to recognize the EU’s substantial support in implementing a slew of impactful ventures across the district.

Among the notable accomplishments of this initiative are the establishment of a Transit facility at the Gbalamuya border town, construction of stores in strategic locations including Madina, Bamoi Luma, and Kambia 2 lorry park, development of sea transportation vessels, augmentation of office space, erection of a pivotal bridge connecting Gbonkomaria and Kathekera, and facilitation of mobility solutions for administrative operations, among other endeavors. These projects are poised to usher in tangible benefits and elevate the standard of living for the district’s residents.

Amidst a jubilant atmosphere, media luminaries from Kambia acknowledged the overwhelming emotional backing from stakeholders and government officials. The Honourable Minister of Local Government, Tamba Lamina, lauded the meticulous execution of the projects and stressed the imperative of responsible maintenance and utilization of the newly established facilities. Additionally, he underscored the crucial role of tax compliance in sustaining the region’s ongoing developmental endeavors.

Council Chairman Mohamed Abdul Mansarico Mansaray and Chief Administrator conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the European Union on behalf of the district’s populace, highlighting the positive ramifications these initiatives will have on the council’s operations. They appealed for continued support from the EU, recognizing the persistent challenges encountered in the district’s pursuit of further advancements.

The Paramount Chiefs of the district lent their resolute support to the projects, affirming their commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of benefits to the grassroots level. They hailed the EU’s unprecedented support and pledged vigilant oversight to ensure the effective utilization of the projects for the community’s welfare.

EU representatives present at the inauguration expressed satisfaction with the projects’ successful implementation. Emmanuel Muller, the EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, expressed optimism about the transformative potential of these investments and reiterated the EU’s dedication to fostering collaboration and progress in the region. Lissa Chisney, EU West Africa chief, commended the active involvement of women in the projects and was honored as the leader of women chiefs in the district as a token of appreciation for her unwavering dedication.
