Fraud Allegations Rock Guarantee Trust Bank: Four Employees Face Trial

In a significant development in the ongoing trial at Court No.1 on Pademba road, Freetown, four individuals from Guarantee Trust Bank, Lunsar branch, were arraigned before Magistrate Sahr Kekura. The accused, namely Habib Kargbo, Lamin Kanara, Yusuf Daramy, and John Kanu, faced charges of conspiracy to defraud and larceny by servant, as stipulated by Section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the allegations outlined in the charge sheet, the accused, in collaboration with unidentified persons, purportedly defrauded Guarantee Trust Bank Sierra Leone Limited of a sum totaling two hundred and eighty million old Leones. This purported incident occurred on January 2nd, 2024, within Lunsar town, Port District.

Furthermore, the accused individuals, all employed at Guarantee Trust Bank Lunsar branch, were accused of stealing the aforementioned sum from the bank on the same date, thus constituting larceny by servant.

The proceedings were presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura, with ASP Ibrahim Mansaray leading the prosecution. Following the hearing, all accused persons were remanded to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to April 19th, 2024, for further proceedings and deliberations.
