In the latest briefing held on Tuesday, Abdulai Caulker, the Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS), asserted that Sierra Leone currently enjoys a state of relative stability and peace. Caulker emphasized the pivotal role of the public in owning their security, marking a significant shift in the country’s security paradigm.

Caulker outlined the core responsibilities of the ONS, delineating its mandate as encompassing all matters related to national security and advocating for enhanced coordination within the security sector. He underscored the importance of ongoing support from the populace to bolster the efforts of security forces in safeguarding Sierra Leone.

Amid persistent security challenges, Caulker assured that the national security apparatus remains vigilant and responsive. Regular meetings at various administrative levels, from national to local, underscore the commitment to addressing emergent threats effectively.

Reflecting on recent electoral processes, Caulker reaffirmed the ONS’s dedication to ensuring peaceful and orderly elections. He credited the successful outcome of the country’s multi-tiered general elections to the proactive measures implemented by security committees, notably the prompt activation of the Independent Electoral Security Committee (IESEC).

Caulker also shed light on the diverse categories of security concerns in Sierra Leone, including drug abuse, with specialized branches such as “TOCHU” dedicated to combating this menace. In light of the proliferation of misinformation on social media platforms, Caulker urged the public to exercise caution and discernment, emphasizing the ONS’s presence across various digital channels to disseminate accurate security-related information.

Additionally, Caulker implored citizens to utilize the designated hotline, 119, to report instances of drug abuse, particularly the distribution of dangerous substances like Kush. He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Office of National Security to delivering responsive security services for the well-being and safety of all Sierra Leoneans.

The declaration of Sierra Leone’s security situation as “relatively stable” by the Coordinator of the Office of National Security underscores ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the nation amidst evolving challenges.
