In a recent session at the Sefadu Magistrate Court, located at D O Barracks in Koidu City, Kono District, Magistrate Joseph Toby presided over the sentencing of two individuals charged with unlawful possession of narcotics.
On Friday, April 5th, 2024, Alie Koroma faced the court’s judgment for possession of at least two hundred and fourteen wraps of Kush, which is in violation of section eight of the National Drugs Control Act 2008. The incident leading to Koroma’s arrest occurred on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at Koakoyima in Koidu City. Following his arrest, investigation, and subsequent charging, Koroma pleaded guilty before Magistrate Joseph Toby. In his plea, Koroma requested the court to consider mercy in its judgment. Consequently, Magistrate Toby sentenced Alie Koroma to fifty-seven months imprisonment. The prosecution of the case was handled by Sergeant 9407 Patrick Kabia.
Similarly, on the same day and within the same courtroom, Tamba Koroma also faced sentencing for possession of narcotics. Tamba Koroma was found in possession of at least four wraps of kush and a stick of Gold Seal filter cigarette at Tinkonkor village in Goramakono Chiefdom, Kono District, on Friday, March 29th, 2024. After due process, Magistrate Toby sentenced Tamba Koroma to fifteen months imprisonment. The prosecution for Tamba Koroma’s case was undertaken by Police Constable 17273 Kanessie SS.
These verdicts highlight the judiciary’s firm stance against drug-related offenses, signaling the seriousness with which such crimes are treated in Sierra Leone.
