Residents of Pujehun, located in the southern province of the country, have voiced their dissatisfaction over the sluggish pace of the electrification process in their town, which commenced in 2021. Despite initial optimism, the town remains enveloped in darkness, contrasting sharply with the rapid progress in electrification observed in surrounding areas.
Expressing their discontent, residents highlighted the perceived favoritism in the distribution of over two hundred free meters. Allegations surfaced that these meters were disproportionately allocated to well-connected individuals and select public institutions, leaving many ordinary residents without access to essential electrical infrastructure.
“We are tired of waiting for the electrification process to materialize. It’s been years of promises without action,” voiced one resident, encapsulating the frustration prevalent among the populace.
This sentiment underscores the urgent need for government and relevant authorities to expedite measures for completing the electrification of Pujehun. The provision of reliable electricity infrastructure is not only pivotal for enhancing living standards but also for fostering economic development and overall quality of life in the region.
While a test run conducted by the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority in June 2023 briefly raised hopes, tangible progress since then has been minimal, exacerbating the frustration of Pujehun’s residents who continue to grapple with life without electricity.
As the outcry for government intervention amplifies, it becomes increasingly evident that swift action is imperative to address the grievances of Pujehun’s residents and ensure the timely completion of the electrification project, thereby fulfilling their long-awaited access to electricity and its associated benefits.
