Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police Mr. Brima Kanneh, took a proactive stance against drug trafficking, leading a successful operation resulting in a significant arrest. Yayah Jalloh, a resident of Devil Road, Freetown, was apprehended at the Gelehun Checkpoint on the Liberia-Jendema Highway with five cartons of tramadol in a vehicle bearing registration number A00213.
The arrest, conducted during the early hours of Sunday, March 17, 2024, underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement officials in combating illicit activities. Police officers stationed at the checkpoint conducted a meticulous search, highlighting the crucial role of stringent security measures.
AIG Kanneh emphasized the Sierra Leone Police’s unwavering commitment to tackling drug trafficking, citing tangible progress in reducing the availability of illicit substances such as Kush, Cannabis-Sativa, and Tramadol. He further noted that the latest seizure included five cartons of the new and potent Tramadol 225, also known as Tapentadol, underscoring the severity of the issue.
Following Jalloh’s arrest, Umaro Bah was identified as the owner of the seized drugs.
Reaffirming their dedication to community safety, the Regional Commander reiterated their determination to eradicate illegal drugs from the region. The Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) is actively investigating the origin of the seized drugs and pursuing other individuals linked to the illicit trade.
Jalloh and Bah are currently in custody and will face charges related to drug trafficking. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities to aid in the ongoing fight against substance abuse.
