Following a two-day Energy Sector Roundtable Conference in Sierra Leone, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Dr. Kanja Sesay, expressed gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for his presence and keynote address, describing it as a sincere and patriotic call to action.
Dr. Sesay acknowledged the challenges facing the energy sector but emphasized the importance of productive collaboration among stakeholders. He noted President Bio’s honesty and forthrightness in addressing critical issues such as rural mini grid tariffs, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing social injustices in energy distribution.
The Minister thanked international partners for their support in convening the conference, which tackled key issues vital for improving energy access in the country.
In response, Finance Minister Sheku Fantamadi Bangura affirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting the energy sector despite economic challenges. He highlighted the significance of the energy sector within the government’s Big Five Agenda, particularly emphasizing the Feed Salone scheme.
Steve Grudda, MCC Country Manager, stressed the importance of effective coordination and consistent planning in the energy sector. He reiterated MCC’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s development aspirations through investments in the energy sector.
Reforms in the energy sector remain ongoing, closely linked to the Feed Salone agenda as the government continues its efforts to improve energy access and address socio-economic disparities.
