In a remarkable collaboration, AWE Academy, in partnership with Women in the Media, commemorated International Women’s Day on March 7, 2024, with a distinctive cross-country event. The event commenced at the AWE Academy school compound at 21 Belmoh Street in the Tembewabu section, weaving through the streets of Bo City and concluding back at the school compound. The event was themed “Empowering Young Minds: Say No to Drug Abuse.”

Madam Sia Sandy, the local unit commander of Bo East Division, expressed admiration for this pioneering initiative, noting it as the first instance of a primary school organizing a cross-country event with a specific theme. She praised the parents of AWE Academy, urging continuous support and highlighting the crucial role of parents in monitoring their children’s activities both at home and school. Madam Sandy encouraged pupils to prioritize their studies, report any crime-related issues, and steer clear of involvement in drug-related activities.

The celebration of International Women’s Day extended to an annual school sport meet at the New Police Barrack field. Key stakeholders, including Joseph Hakawa Kainessie from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, commended AWE Academy’s innovative approach. Kainessie expressed the ministry’s satisfaction and delight at the administration’s groundbreaking ideas, setting a new standard in the educational arena by integrating a theme into an inter-house sport meet with a focus on “Radical Inclusion.”

Mr. Alfred Bion, Vice Principal of Christ the King College, marveled at the participation of primary school students in events like computer competitions, bead activities, and tie-dye during the annual sports meet. The proprietor of AWE Academy, Mr. Timothy I. Okekearu, emphasized the school’s commitment to innovation, stating that “Innovation is our key to success.” He underscored the importance of support for every child, asserting that no child is incapable, and encouraged parents to stand by their children as they develop.

The culmination of the celebration witnessed Richards House Blue of AWE Academy emerging as winners of the annual school sports meet. Vangai House Yellow secured the 2nd position, Alpha House Green claimed the 3rd position, and Miller House Red achieved the 4th position. The success of the event highlighted AWE Academy’s dedication to fostering innovation, inclusivity, and the holistic development of young minds.
