9th March 2024

As a way of honouring their son back to his root, the people of Pejeh Bongay and Penguia Chiefdoms in Kailahun District, staged one of the biggest welcoming ceremonies on behalf of Major General (Rtd) David Taluva.

It could be recalled about eight months ago, the Retired Major was appointed by His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio to serve the people of Sierra Leone, as the Minister of Internal Affairs, based on his knowledge on both internal and external security matters.

And in order to help President Bio to deliver on his mandates, it’s but obvious that the Minister gets the blessings of his forefathers.

On that note, Minister Taluva left the shore of Freetown on Thursday 7th March 2024, to visit his people in the far east of Sierra Leone, where he was massively welcomed by indigens, not only from his Chiefdom but the entire district.

It was a historical moment for the Minister, as thousands of people stormed the district to give their blessings on his appointment as the Minister of Internal Affairs, with musical set parade and different types of cultural performances in honor of the minister.

Sierra Leone currently has about eight million people, and for Major Retired David Taluva to be appointed as Minister, is a blessing in disguise even though he’s more than capable of delivering on his mandates, as Minister of Internal Affairs.

Therefore, the people of Both chiefdoms and the district as a whole thanked and applauded President Bio for appointing their son to be part of his “Tok and Do Government”.

They are impressed so far with what President Bio has done in his first term in office, with the Free Quality Education, good road network, and  health facilities, among other basic and amenities, not only in their district but the entire country.

They’re optimistic that the President can do more in his second term, based on the level of engagement and commitment he has made so far, just under a year after his re-election.

On his part, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Major General (Rtd) David Taluva, thanked the people of Constituency 010 for voting overwhelmingly for President Maada Bio and welcoming him to his home with such grandeur and glamour.

They emphasized that if they hadn’t voted for President Bio, he would not have been appointed as the Minister of Internal Affairs, a very critical ministry in fostering internal peace in the country.

Minister Taluva furthered that his appointment was not only for him but for the people of Constituency 010 and the entire district.

The Minister who was accompanied by the Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) District Secretary General and Mr John Benjamin, representatives of the SLPP North America branch were elated also based on what they saw from the people.

At the end, Minister Taluva gave bags of rice and cash to each chiefdom as his own share for the Ramadan with cultural performances climaxing the meeting.
