The Sierra Leone National Senior Women’s team are in the middle of an intensive training with 25 players ahead of the commencement of the Women’s Day Cup scheduled to take place in Kenema from the 1st to the 8th March, 2024 in celebration of the International Women’s Day.

During the post training meeting today at the Kenema Town filed, Head Coach Hassan Mansaray gave technical guidance to the players regarding their approach towards the competition and emphasized on the importance of teamwork and correlation in the pitch of play.” We have to see ourselves as a team both in and out of the pitch because this is the only way we can achieve favorable results for our nation”. Coach Mansaray said.

He further admonished the players that, “even though these are friendly matches, they must be taken very seriously as this tournament will serve as a dress rehearsal for upcoming competitive international qualifiers. No one has a permanent space in the team. Our being here is solely based on our delivery both as players and technical staff. Let us therefore perform our respective roles with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.”

Both Sierra Leone and Liberia have arrived in Kenema with full delegations. Sierra Leone’s delegation includes twenty-five players each from the U-17 and senior teams, who arrived on Wednesday evening.

Similarly, Liberia has sent a sixty-seven-member delegation comprising players and officials from both their U-17 and U-20 national women’s football teams, departing from Monrovia on the same day.

These friendlies not only celebrate women in sports but also aim to foster the development of women’s football across the region.

It’s worth noting that Ramatulai Kamara holds a unique position as the only woman in the executive committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association, where she also serves as the Head of Women’s Football in the country.

Attached are the squad lists of the Sierra Leone teams and the lined-up fixtures, promising an exciting start to this prestigious tournament.
