In a pivotal development in the murder trial of Mohamed Jagitay, Detective Police Sergeant Issa Kamara presented crucial evidence before Magistrate Sahr Kekura on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024. The evidence in question was the knife purportedly used in the alleged murder of Ibrahim Jagitay, the brother of the accused.
Mohamed Jagitay stands accused of the heinous crime, charged with one count of murder as per legal statutes. The incident, as outlined in the particulars of the offense, occurred on Friday, July 28th, 2023, at Kellie Farm, Malambay Village, Waterloo, where Ibrahim Jagitay tragically lost his life.
During the proceedings, Detective Sergeant Issa Kamara, serving at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters as an exhibit clerk, testified as prosecution witness No. 10. He recounted receiving the knife, along with an old empty EarPods case, from Detective Inspector D.A. Marque of the homicide unit CID headquarters on September 18th, 2023, in connection with the case. These items were duly recorded as exhibits and subsequently tendered as evidence to bolster the prosecution’s case.
Notably, there was no cross-examination by the defense lawyers following Detective Kamara’s testimony. At the conclusion of the prosecution’s presentation of evidence, Prosecutor Inspector Sellu TAP closed the case.
However, Lawyer M. Rashid, representing the accused, indicated to the court that he would submit a No Case motion on the forthcoming adjourned date.
Magistrate Kekura adjourned the proceedings to March 8th, 2024, while ordering the remand of the accused in prison custody pending further legal deliberations.
The courtroom atmosphere remained charged as the legal saga surrounding the alleged murder continues to unfold, with all eyes now turning to the defense’s anticipated move in the upcoming phase of the trial.
