In a harrowing case presented before Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh of the Falaba Magistrate Court in the Northern province of Freetown, Marowa Kamara, a farmer, faced a litany of charges including shooting with intent to kill, wounding with intent, possession of small arms without a license, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The prosecution outlined the chilling events that unfolded on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at a remote location in Sangnanba Chiefdom within the Falaba judicial district. According to the prosecution’s account, Kamara allegedly shot Madusu Dumerch with the intent to murder her. Additionally, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Dumerch, wounded her maliciously, and was found in possession of a firearm without a license. Furthermore, he assaulted Dumerch, causing her actual bodily harm.
The prosecution’s first witness, Mariama Dumerch, recounted the horrifying ordeal, identifying the accused as her husband and the victim as her elder sister, who was currently hospitalized. Mariama described how she witnessed Kamara shooting her sister and subsequently assaulting her when she attempted to intervene. She detailed a series of violent acts perpetrated by Kamara, including rape and threats of further violence.
In response to the gravity of the charges, Magistrate Daboh denied Kamara bail and remanded him to the male correctional center pending further hearings. The case was adjourned to March 4, 2024, for additional proceedings.
The courtroom was gripped by the disturbing testimony presented, shedding light on a deeply troubling incident of domestic violence and brutality. The community awaits further developments as justice is sought for the victim and accountability for the accused.
Meanwhile Magistrate Daboh refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional center matter adjourned to the 4th March 2024 for further hearing.
