In a concerted effort to bolster healthcare services through digital innovation, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Yashoda Hospital from India, convened at Connaught Hospital in Freetown on Saturday to foster cross-country exchange and development within the health sector.
Dr. Mark Kapuwa, Hospital Care Manager at Connaught Hospital, underscored the significance of the Sierra Leone-India partnership in enhancing healthcare delivery. He emphasized that the initiative aimed to reshape the healthcare landscape in the country.
- Phanindra, Vice President of Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad, highlighted their commitment to replicating the quality healthcare services they offer in India, particularly in the realm of digital health services and addressing surgical deficiencies in Sierra Leone.
Phanindra expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to facilitate a robust working relationship between the Sierra Leonean government and Yashoda Hospital, fostering idea exchange and addressing surgical challenges through digital solutions. He also stressed the mutual benefits the collaboration would yield for both nations.
Nitin Salgotra, an expert from Yashoda Hospital, emphasized their successful track record of partnerships across Africa and outlined plans for the partnership in Sierra Leone. Salgotra disclosed that the collaboration would include training medical personnel in utilizing advanced health equipment, with a particular focus on critical surgeries.
He announced plans for the first brain surgery to be conducted in Sierra Leone under the partnership, alongside initiatives such as online training programs and patient exchanges for procedures like liver transplants and bone marrow operations.
Fatmata Kanjia Jalloh, Senior Matron of Connaught Hospital, expressed gratitude for the partnership and encouraged Sierra Leoneans to make the most of the opportunities it presented.
The partnership between Sierra Leone and India signifies a pivotal step towards advancing healthcare services, leveraging digital technologies and international expertise to address critical healthcare needs in Sierra Leone.
