The 5th congregation ceremony for the conferment of Degrees and Award of Diplomas and Certificates for the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) took place on Saturday, 20th January 2024. The event was held at the Prof. E.J.J Momoh Pavilion, University Secretariat, Magburaka Campus, with over 1,650 students graduating. H.E. Rev’d Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Lomem Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, Federal Republic of Nigeria, served as the Guest of Honour.
During the ceremony, Chancellor Dr. David Omatshola Carew expressed his appreciation for the Minister of Higher Education’s introduction of the educational scheme. He highlighted the university’s search for private support, particularly for students studying Banking and Finance, among other programs.
Rev’d. Prof Edwin J. J. Momoh, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, announced that EBKUST is the 3rd state-owned university and the 6th public university in Sierra Leone. He congratulated the graduates, emphasizing that the day marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another. He also highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting President Bio’s Big 5 initiatives, including Feeds Salone, human capital development, youth employment scheme, public Sector Architecture and Technology, and infrastructure.
A goodwill message from Liberia was conveyed by the Head of the Liberian delegation, adding an international dimension to the ceremony. Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, described the day as a significant milestone in the academic journey of the graduates. She emphasized the Ministry’s focus on establishing a robust legal framework to transform the educational sector.
In addition to the graduates, Pro. Aliyageen Mohamed Alghali and Rev’d Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iomem Alia were honored with the conferment of Doctor of Humane Letters during the ceremony, adding prestige to the event.
