Minister Isata Mahoi took center stage at a prominent event held at the US Embassy in Freetown, where she participated as a panelist alongside esteemed figures such as Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield and gender advocate Mitchell Sesay.

The focus of the event was Women Inclusion in Leadership, providing Minister Mahoi with an opportunity to share her remarkable journey and emphasize the crucial role of women’s voices in leadership positions.

In her impassioned address, Minister Mahoi highlighted the importance of women identifying challenges and seeking mentorship opportunities to enhance their leadership skills. Defying stereotypes and overcoming societal barriers, she encouraged women to assert themselves confidently, emphasizing the mantra, “Keep telling yourself: ‘I can do it.'”

Reflecting on tangible progress, Minister Mahoi pointed out the successful implementation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act. She noted the notable increase in women’s representation in both parliament and cabinet positions. Minister Mahoi outlined proactive steps taken by her ministry, including the establishment of a dedicated secretariat and collaboration with UN Women to ensure accountability and meet the 30% quota threshold.

Advocating for gender parity across all sectors, Minister Mahoi stressed the importance of data collection and annual reporting to track progress and address existing gaps. Her commitment to fostering inclusivity and driving positive change resonated throughout the event, inspiring attendees to champion women’s leadership in Sierra Leone.
