APC Disavows Planned Protest Supporting Coup Suspects

In a press release issued today, January 16, 2023, at their party headquarters on Bright Street, Freetown, the leadership of the All-People’s Congress (APC) unequivocally disassociated itself from any involvement in a planned protest supporting coup suspects. Emphasizing a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, the party urged its members and supporters to adhere to legal processes and refrain from participating in any unauthorized demonstrations.

The APC clarified that it had not called for any protest in support of individuals implicated in the alleged failed coup on November 26. The party’s leadership strongly urged its members, supporters, and the general public not to participate in the unauthorized demonstration. The statement addressed concerns raised on social media regarding a planned protest, categorically denying any involvement in organizing or endorsing such an event.

Highlighting their stance against the alleged coup attempt, the APC emphasized that on November 27, 2023, the party issued a statement condemning the failed coup and pledging full cooperation with law enforcement agencies during ongoing investigations. Key members of the party, including the former Chairman and Leader, as well as the National Organizing Secretary, have been charged and are currently facing legal proceedings related to the alleged coup attempt.

The APC’s leadership assured its membership of their commitment to ensuring a fair trial, justice, and the preservation of the dignity and human rights of the accused individuals. They appealed to all party members and supporters to respect the judicial process and refrain from participating in an unauthorized protest.

Furthermore, the party’s leadership emphasized their dedication to seeking the truth behind the coup attempt through legal channels and other constructive means. They urged all members and supporters to remain law-abiding and patient, allowing the judicial process to unfold.
