In fulfillment of his campaign promises to his constituents, Honorable Musa Fofanah, the Member of Parliament for the Nimikoro cluster in Kono District (formerly constituency 023), alongside councilors and cluster executives, has officially handed over a newly constructed community barray and a Jula office to the people of Bumpeh Town in Nimikoro chiefdom, Kono District.

The projects, valued at least three hundred million old Leones, were funded by Hon. Musa Fofanah and executed by the Chiefdom Development Committee under the supervision of the cluster executives, ward councilors, and the people of Bumpeh.

Bumpeh Town, a significant community in Nimikoro chiefdom, has been without a community barray for over forty years. During the 2018 General Elections, the residents requested the construction of a Town Hall, a project that reportedly commenced in 2020. David Tamba Osman, the Development Secretary-General, highlighted the challenges faced during the implementation of the project, citing limited community participation. He praised Hon. Musa Fofanah for his consistent support over the past five years, contributing to numerous infrastructural developments and services for the people of Nimikoro chiefdom.

At the official handing-over ceremony, Sheik Mohamed Lamin Fofanah, the chairman, expressed gratitude to Hon. Musa Fofanah and all attendees for their presence. He emphasized the importance of appreciating and cherishing development efforts, as it encourages further contributions to community development. Chief Alhaji Abdulai Komassie, the Chiefdom Speaker, thanked Hon. Musa Fofanah for his positive contributions and expressed satisfaction with the Sierra Leone People’s Party for selecting the right leader for Nimikoro chiefdom.

Chief Komassie, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of maintenance culture in Bumpeh Town, cautioning that neglecting the newly constructed Town Hall would hold the town chief and section chiefdom responsible. Honourable Musa Fofanah explained that part of the project funding came from his agreement to allocate two months of his salary for development purposes, demonstrating his commitment to infrastructural development using resources from mining companies’ surface rent.

In a keynote address, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, Deputy Leader of Government Business, praised Hon. Musa Fofanah as a phenomenal leader who has set a lasting legacy. He emphasized the importance of loyalty in developing Kono District and encouraged the people of Nimikoro chiefdom to support such dedicated leaders.

The ceremony included statements from other speakers, including Fatmata Konneh, Section Chief Sahr Foday, and Tamba Abu Koroma. The event concluded with the cutting of the tape by Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina.
