The Chief Executive officer, Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHARDI), Abdul Fatorma has described the actions of members of the Sierra Leone Parliament at the Bintumani Conference Centre on Monday as dishonorable and a clear disrespect to the people and constitution of Sierra Leone. He said that the attitude displayed by the MPs at Bintumani was nothing honorable, adding that elected members of Parliament were seen and heard literarily using motherly invectives “Mamie Cuss”* against one another.

The Chief Executive Campaign for Human Rights and Development International pointed out that Sierra Leone is a Democratic state and that if people are not satisfied with whatever procedures they should follow due process, adding that erupting violence was never a due process but a complete disregard to the country, and therefore, his organization outrightly condemns it.

Mr. Fatorma called on Sierra Leoneans to vehemently condemn such acts and consequently demand for an apology by the members of Parliament. He said such incidents are not good for the image and progress of the country as was captured by the international community.

Speaking about the actions of the police at the event, Abdul Fatorma stated that the police did not help the situation either, noting that the police have been largely used over the years as political surrogates; which he said is very sad for the country’s democracy.

He reiterated that Sierra Leoneans should stand against such acts put up by those who supposed to have been representing them on national issues. “We should be very much angry against these thugs and dishonorable people that we sent to Parliament, thinking they were Honorable but they have shown to us that they are not honorable,” he said.

He said it’s sad that he had to witness for the second time where parliamentarians display disorderly behaviors.
