Football for A New Tomorrow FANT-Sierra Leone has boosted 120 fire victims at the Susan Bay Community with 25kg of rice to each family. The group has also launched the back in school project for all its operational communities.
A total of 30 vulnerable children from each of the 10 Communities which include Susan Bay, Kroo Bay, Congo Town, Murray Town, Aberdeen, Lumley, Godrich, Wilberforce and Regent in Freetown and two communities in the Tonkolili District have benefited from the back in school project. The initiative will give each child the access to go back to school.
The back in School project will carter for vulnerable children that had dropped out of school because their parents or guardians can’t afford to support them to further their education.
Each of the Children was presented with a bag, exercise books, geometry set, dictionary, uniform and shoe. This is not the first time FANT- Sierra Leone is rendering such help to these Communities.
According to the Project coordinator, Mahmoud Bah, FANT-SL decided to help the Susan Bay Fire Victims because at this time they are facing difficult and need help from philanthropic bodies.
FANT-SL was founded in 2012 by two Danish Philanthropist Erik Rasmussen and Cecilia Hauereberg. The main goal of the organization is to effect change and development in Sierra Leone through Community Sport Association based on the Danish Association model.
Some of the aims and objectives of FANT-SL is to use football in promoting peace and unity among membership of different communities to organize and build the capacity of players and coaches in Football
FANT-SL started with four Communities in Freetown and three in Tonkolili District the Northern part of Sierra Leone and later added four more in Freetown. The organization is now operating in 11 Communities in Sierra Leone.
The group is reaching and creating positive changes and good relationship to population of about 10, 000 with regards to difference in culture, ethnicity and religion as the Motto is “FOOTBALL FOR UNITY.”
