President Bio Receives High Powered ECOWAS Team In Freetown

In a bid to foster peace and stability, in Sierra Leone and other countries in the West-African region, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio has confirmed that he has received a high-powered delegation from the ECOWAS Commission and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to salvage the security system and boost the defense strategies that will provide possible solutions to the security breaches that occurred in the capital Freetown on Sunday November 26th 2023.

 The highly powered delegation was received at the State Avenue, Tower hill, Freetown on 27th November 2023.

To start with, the President maintained that he received the following delegations from Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Military Intelligence Major General Emmanuel Udiandeye, and President of the Ecowas commission Dr Omar Alieu Touray, among others. He said, they conveyed a message of solidarity from the Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Heads of State and President of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as that of the other ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

In another note, a senior profile citizen renders his statements towards the ECOWAS visit by saying that this is the right path to the unwavering commitment to democracy and regional cooperation which is commendable. He furthers that the visit from the Nigerian counterparts and esteemed officials from Nigeria is a strong testament to the solidarity and unity we share as members of the ECOWAS community. We are grateful for their support and messages of solidarity. The peaceful co-existence and shared determination for democracy that we have exhibited is the cornerstone of our continued growth and mutual understanding.

Let’s continue to uphold these principles, as they are the bedrock of our society. To the people of Sierra Leone, let’s remember that our nation is a beacon of peace, a testament to resilience, and a symbol of democratic values which emerged from a decade-long civil war stronger and more united. Let’s honor that legacy by upholding peace, justice, and democracy. He advised other patriotic Sierra Leoneans.

Furthermore, the Delegation reiterated the ECOWAS member States commitment towards preserving democracy and good governance across the sub-region while assuring of their readiness to work with our Government towards forestalling any future security occurrences.

He assured President Maada stated that “my Government’s commitment to democracy, justice, the well-being and safety of our citizens remains unwavering. Sierra Leone’s leadership position in key institutions across the globe will be preserved. We are deeply thankful for the tremendous outpouring of support from key allies around the region and world.

Conclusively, President Bio restated we shall continue to work towards preserving and promoting the priceless peace that we have enjoyed as a country since the end of our unfortunate decade-long civil war 21 years ago.
