For spraying a pepper spary that nearly killed the speaker of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police has yesterday the 20th of April, informed Journalists that the police officer with the name Inspector Mohamed Agama Kamara of the OSD Unit, is now in their custody pending administrative action for unprofessional policing.
Updating journalists in a presser, the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Victor Manfred Williams disclosed that, during the pandemonium at the Parliamentary sitting at the Bintumani Conference Centre, they were called to provide security. He said during the course of providing that Security one of their personnel misbehaved.. He added that because the personnel in question did not act professionally, the leadership of the police has brought him to book for using the pepper spray which also left the Speaker unconscious.
“Inspector Mohamed Agama Kamara of the OSD unit is now under investigation pending administrative action because we want people to know that even in our line of duty, we want the police to be professional because we are the eyes of the country. We are investigating him to see whether his action was done from a malicious point of view or mistakenly released the paper spray”, he intimated.
In a related update, Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG Brima Jah also disclosed that police has apprehended some workers of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) for stealing properties belonging to EDSA such as coppers harvested from EDSA transformers and many more. He added that upon receiving intelligence, he led an investigation at No. 2 Thompson Bay off Wilkinson Road Freetown and discovered that Hassan Papah Conteh a Senior Technician for EDSA was illegally in possession of four bags of assorted electrical equipment, five new pre-paid meters, eight old pre-paid meters, five cottons of change over fuse, three installation bags and assorted line and assorted pin cuts.
He said they also arrested one Samuel Koroma of No. 32 Upper Philip street Willington who is also a Line Man for EDSA and was also caught him with 16 millimeter copper cables and 25 millimeter of aluminum cables. He described such act as a complete sabotage to the state especially when it comes to the intermittent electricity supply in the city and therefore, reaffirmed that a total of ten EDSA personnel have been arrested in connection to transformer theft and theft of other EDSA assorted equipment across the country and are currently being investigated at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police.
Oh his part, the Director of Community and Gender Affairs of the Sierra Leone Police A.I.G Mustapha Kamara also briefed and assured the press that the Sierra Leone Police is committed to restoring law and order, and equally keen to prevent a recurrence of crimes that have the propensity to undermine development activity of the state.
As part of the Sierra Leone Police’s quest to have a reformed policing system, AIG Mustapha Kamara also disclosed that the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police including the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and the Minister of Internal Affairs have just concluded a three-day police retreat at Tokeh aimed at reviewing police policy services and identify where they have improved, and strengthen the areas where there are failures or challenges to be addressed.
As part of the regular update from the Police, the Head of Communications at the Sierra Leone Police superintendent Brima Kamara Fondly called (Media One) observed that, several times Okada Riders have been breaching the rules that prohibit commercial Bike riders from plying the Central Business District CBD. He therefore warned that with effect from yesterday the 20th of April 2021, any Bike rider that attempts to breach the CBD will be arrested and asked to pay a fine to the Sierra Road Safety Authority SLRSA, in addition to the confiscation of individual motor bikes. He added that the issue with regards to the Hastings Killing and all the police officers who were allegedly involved in such killing have been suspended, and also put on administrative and criminal investigation.
