Head of the Coalition for Change party (C4C) in Parliament who doubles as the Member of Parliament for constituency 030 in Kono district, Hon. Sahr Emerson Lamina has commended the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA) for the construction of two bridges, four culverts and two roads in his constituency.
According to Hon. Sahr Emerson Lamina, the Looking Town road project, when completed in two weeks’ time, will not impede pupils from going to school as it was the case especially during the rainy season when people found it difficult to use the muddy road.
He said his lobby and the cries of his constituents did not fall on deaf ears noting that the works have already been commissioned by government. He lamented that the poor condition of the Looking Town road had hindered education as it made pupils stay out of school for days because the road was impassable to access schools within the area.
He said as a listening government, cabinet saw the need to improve the road that is why the RMFA has rushed to the area on a timely manner.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, RMFA, Bashiru Sheriff has confirmed to A-Z newspaper that the entire project costs one billion five hundred million Leones (LE 1.5 billion). He called on the community to be watchful pointing out that they should own and monitor the project until the end. He noted that government cannot spend such staggering amount of money from the consolidated fund in vacuum, without being fully monitored. He added that the administration does not only sit in Freetown but traverses the entire country to see areas of intervention.
This project, when completed, will link Koikoima to other areas within the township and it will lead to socio-economic boom for a population of eighteen thousand residing in the constituency.
