The University of Sierra Leone has on the 15th April 2021 ended its three day congregation ceremony for the conferment of Degree and Award of Diplomas and Certificates for the academic year 2019/2020 at the Samuel Adjai Crowder Amphitheatre Fourah Bay College campus. Over two thousand (2,000) students from Fourah Bay College-University of Sierra Leone graduated on Thursday marking the end of the year’s congregation for the University Of Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie said Sierra Leone will not progress if people do not imbibe integrity and discipline. The Minister encouraged the graduates to see themselves as pioneers of the much bedded change the country is yearning for, adding that they would soon be leading various management positions in and outside Sierra Leone, but would be able to do so only if they start to demonstrate integrity as at now. He praised the University Of Sierra Leone particularly Fourah Bay College for its excellence work over the years. The Minister of Technical and Higher Education pointed out that human capital development rests in higher education. “It is only when higher educational institutions ensure that they produce quality students that Sierra Leone would develop,” he said.

Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie boasted that all backlog subventions that have not been paid have now been paid. Dr. Wurie disclosed that government is now doing full calculations to pay all backlogs from 2014 to 2021. He further noted that government is keen on quality education, and that to get that quality they have to drastically reduce the number of people they produce at degree, diploma and certificate levels from the premiere universities.

The Minster reiterated that his ministry would be inaugurating two technical universities by next academic year. He added that by the same next academic year, they would have what he described as a centralized admission system across universities.

The graduation ceremony was again for the third and final session done in a well secured environment and peaceful atmosphere. Parents, Guardians, friend’s family members and well-wishers were in their numbers to celebrate their loved ones, friends and relatives.

Congratulations indeed to the latest graduates in town.
