Sierra Leone Taekwondo Federation Athletes has on 6th November 2023 grabbed Bronze Medals in African Taekwondo Union Championship in Ivory Coast.
Two foreign Athletes from the Federation represented Sierra Leone in the African Taekwondo Union Championship and both grabbed Bronze medals in their respective weights categories where they fight.
Edward Holland grabbed medal in the ongoing African Taekwondo Union Championship, while George Lewis first won by 2-0 against a Malawi fighter, while in the second fighter he defeated Burkina Faso national by (2-1) and in third fight he narrowly lost to Egyptian, but according to the Judges George Lewis won the fight but grabbed Bronze medal.
Oness Abayomi Johnson the President of the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Federation said the Championship is good for the foreign based Taekwondo Athletes because with what they have won have positive impact back home, noting that the other athletes back home and the public are happy seeing the athletes won something in the Championship.
He affirmed that, the Technical Team and Athletes are bracing up now for another Championship event that will springs positive preparations ahead of the Olympic Games qualifiers and the All Africa Games qualifiers next year.
He furthered that, the local athletes and the technical teams are currently working on to face neighboring countries both Liberia and Guinea in International friendlies in Sierra Leone.
Few months back both Edward Holland and George Maxwell represented Sierra Leone in the Australian Taekwondo open Championship where they grabbed medals, and in January 2023 they both took part in the World Taekwondo Competition in Baku Azbajan where they did well although they did not win any medals.
Sierra Leone Taekwondo Federation is currently ranked (100) in the World ranking.
