A 14 year old girl, Mariama Amadu has attempted to kill herself by hanging at Small Sefadu in Kono District. According to the victim Mariama Amadu, she decided to hang herself to a rope and die due to the behavior of her Aunt towards her at home, citing example to the latest ugly development that happened between them when she was maltreated by the Aunt in question to immediately provide the money that was in her possession for safekeeping, noting that without waiting for responds, her aunty started throwing abusive words on her in the presence of her friends.
The young girl said she felt provoked and intimidated which caused her to attempt the suicide. Fatmata Sidy who is the aunt of the victim described the act as unfortunate noting that the young girl must have been influenced by her peer group. According to her, Mariama now goes out without her permission at the same time object to whatever she asks her to do at home noting that she often misbehaves. Notwithstanding, She has pardon her and she has called her uncle for counseling.
Meanwhile, local people have accused the police in Kono District for compromising their constitutional duty by not apprehending the girl rather than leaving her to go court free which has the potential of influencing others to do likewise.
