A businessman Idrissa Kangbai appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura for the offences of assault, wounding intent assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It was alleged that Kangabai, Alias Moneyman, on Monday 81th August 2022 at off Bai Bureh Road Quarry Kissy in Freetown assaulted and wounded Alimatu Kamara with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.
The charge sheet furthered that the accused, on the same date and address, in Freetown, assaulted the second complainant, Mohamed Madieu Jalloh in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
Led in evidence by Chief Inspector Isatu Bangura, with Detective Police Constable (DPC) 16960 Adama Koroma residing at Fanna Street Allentown in Freetown.
Adama is attached to the Criminal Invrstgation Department (CID) at Kissy Police Division in Freetown.
She told the court that she recognized the complainants including the accused.
The witness said she could recall 8th August, 2022.
On the day in question, Adama continued that she was on duty at the said unit, at the Kissy Police Station, when the complainants arrived at the station made a report against the accused.
The matter was assigned to her by her superior, adding that upon receipt of the information, she issued the complainants with police media request forms for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital in Wellington Freetown.
On the same day, he said the second complainant, Mohamed Madieu Jalloh retuned with the endorsed medical paper which was produced and tendered to form part of the court’s records.
The witness said on 9th August 2022, she obtained statement from the complainants’ witnesses respectively.
She told the court that on the same date, the second complainant, Alimatu Kamara, retuned with the endosed medical paper and obtained statements from her.
The endosed medical paper was produced and tendered in evidence.
On 8th August, 2022, she said the complainants who were assisted by some community people arrested and brought in to the station.
The witness said on the same day, she obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused, which he admitted to it to be true and correct by affixing his right thumbprint witnessed.
The accused’s voluntary caution statement was produced and tendered as evidence.
She rounded up her evidence that on 15th August, 2023 she charged the accused with the above-mentioned offences.
The charge statement was produced and tendered marked as “B1-3”
Defence counsel, Mustapha Mohamed Mbawoh put it to the witness as an investigator for four years, had investigated matter of such nature, to which she responded in the affirmative.
Lawyer Mbawoh confronted the witness the accused denied the allegations.
Responding, the witness said she couldn’t recall.
The bail of the accused remains in force and the matter was adjourned to 17th October, 2023 for further cross examination.
