School going pupils and parents in Moyamba district are calling on government to resume school bus services in the district. The said school buses where donated to the district by the government of Sierra Leone under the Free Quality Education Flagship Program that was introduced by President Julius Maada Bio.
One concerned parent told our reporter that the school buses have been really helpful to the pupils in the township as it reduced accidents. Before then motorbikes were overloading students to school and in process sometimes ran into accidents along the way.
Questioning the Chief Administrator of the Council, Philip Sama to know why the buses are not running, he disclosed that according to the agreement with government that any mechanical problem the buses faced, the Local Council should report it to Freetown and they will send mechanic for repairs. He added that they have contacted the people responsible several times till date nothing has been done.
With the minor problems of the buses, Mr. Sama appealed to the pupils to exercise patient as the council is working hard to repair the grounded buses. During the handing over of the buses stakeholders made donations as a way of complimenting government’s effort. When the Chief Administrator was asked about the donations, she said his predecessor Veronica Fortune did not update his office about that. Residents in the district are also calling on civil society groups and the media to investigate the said fund.
