The senior administrator of Dainbaya Educational Training Center in Koidu city Kono district Tambason Kaminja has said that the principal vision of the aforementioned institution is to seeing that Kono district becomes a technology hub in Sierra Leone within the next three to five years. He made the statement when contacted to be abreast of the media on the operations and vision of the aforementioned institution.
Explaining the reasons that brought the establishment of the institution, Tambason Kaminja stated that the establishment came awake a survey the acting manager of the said institution conducted on the impacts of I.C .T on women in Sierra Leone kono to be specific.
The survey according to him, seventy percent of women in Kono district had little or no knowledge in information communication Technology, adding that, in order to address such gap in Kono district. The institution was established to provide information communication Technology training for the young generation especially women and girls in Kono district.
Tambason Kaminja continued to explain that in the not too distance future, many people who do not have knowledge in computer will be denied of certain opportunities that may come their way due to their inability to navigate around some of the softwares. Talking on the aims and objectives of the institution Mr Kaminja reiterated that the institution’s aim is to turn Kono district into a tech hub through the training of young people that will serve as master trainers to train their colleagues on information communication Technology in schools, workplace or in institutions wherever they may find themselves. “Our desire is to train more students who in turn will replicate the same knowledge in the society to augment the human capital development in Sierra Leone”, he stated. When asked to know the mechanisms they are going to put in place in order to achieve or succeed in turning Kono into a tech hub? Administrator Kaminja intimated our correspondent that, the institution will succeed in achieving the vision through collaborative efforts and the willingness of the young generation in Kono to become computer literate , noting the institution is ready to provide training for even the aged and people living with disability. He added that plans were afoot by the management of DAINBAYA to incorporate bike riders, market women and teachers in the district to be trained to cushion the challenges they are faced when it comes to technology in the district.” The institution by itself cannot ascend that level thus it requires collaborative efforts to achieve such vision”. He added.
Mr Kaminja intimated this medium that the institution also needs finance to roll out its activities, adding the CEO Dr.
Aminata Sesay and the senior director Dr. Mohamed Sesay are retired pensioners who out of love for education are supporting the institution. Asked to know some of the success stories recorded since the inception of the institution to date, Tambason Kaminja stated that the institution amidst the financial challenges have provided scholarships facility for girls who are into science, technology, engineering, mathematics ( STEM ) adding they have prepared students in ICT who are doing extremely well in their various universities within the country stating they have also provided mentorship to many students in the district.
On his part, the general manager of the aforementioned institution, Engineer Tamba Tejan Fillie maintained that the institution was established in 2019 and have supported about seventy students who are currently in universities across the country and they are doing extremely well adding that they are more particular about the less privileged who do not have educational support.
“Noting it’s the desire of the CEO and the senior director of the institution to support these less privileged in Kono district as a way of paying back to the community” he concluded. Sarah Marrah and Emmanuel T. Kembay are some of the students of DAINBAYA when talking to A-z thanked and appreciated the CEO and the senior director for their unwavering support towards their academic progress and implored them to do more as the demand is becoming higher every day.
