The people of WOOKOR VILLAGE in Tainsaykor section Soa chiefdom Kono district have called on the government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in Kono, NGO’S and philanthropists who have passion for education to rehabilitate the Roman CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL in the aforementioned community.
Speaking to this medium, the above school management committee chairman Aiah Peter Allieu described the current status of the school as a death trap for pupils that go there on daily basis for academic purpose.
Allieu further explained that the school lacks toilet, furniture and water facilities, noting pupils of the said school most often do attend to nature in the nearby bush which he said has greater health implications on them especially during the rains.
Daniel Saphia Konoboy is one of the community teachers said that the challenges they are faced with in the school is becoming unbearable, noting the said challenges will seriously deprive the children of their rights to education if not quickly addressed by the appropriate authorities.
“We are just rendering our service here because of the love we have for our country and the passion we have for education hence we would not have continued with such fruitfulness efforts,” he said.
He said even the gentleman’s agreement with the school administration and the community people are not encouraging at all Sahr Konoboy lamented. On his part, the head teacher of the school in question Joseph Tamba Williams explained that since he took over the school in 2021 there were so many challenges but with the help of God and the support from the community people he has surmounted some of the challenges. He, however, pleaded with the government and other organizations that have passion for education to come to their aid and rehabilitate the Roman Catholic Primary School.
