Support Officer Tankoro Police Division Outlines Reasons For High Consumption Of Drugs

As the fight against the misuse of narcotic drugs in Kono district and the country as a whole continues, the support officer Tankoro police divisional headquarters in Koidu city Kono district chief superintendent of police Zainab Kamara has said that poverty, lack of parental care, parental neglect and peer group influence are the major factors that lure the large constituents of the youths population of Sierra Leone to involve into drug misuse.

CSP Kamara made the statement in an interview with our correspondent with regard the intervention of the police to reduce or if possible curb the misuse of drug substances among the youths and adults in the district and the country as a whole.

She said that most of the youths who are highly involved into the misuse of drugs lack parental caring and do not have anyone that can advise them to deviate from the misuse of drug substances hence, they see it as a means of socialization. 

She therefore called on parents to provide the necessary support and caring for their children which according to her will help them to succeed in the fight against the massive consumption of Kush in the country.

 “As our responsibility is to protect lives and property we are doing everything humanly possible to intensify our patrols in the various mapped out ghettos in Koidu city to arrest the owners of those ghettos, peddlers and abusers,” she maintained.

CSP Kamara further disclosed plans afoot by the aforementioned police Divisional headquarters to tighten up the various border crossing points to prevent the free flow of Kush and other harmful drugs in the district, adding plans are also afoot to recruit intelligent personnel in the force and outside that will serve as the eyes and ears of the police force for the communication of vital information that will aid police operations.
