The Technical team of the Sierra Leone national senior men’s team (Leone Stars) has invited 30 Home-based players to commence training on 21st August 2023 in preparation for the country’s next encounter against Guinea-Bissau in the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON Qualifiers in September this year
Leone Stars are going into this match to honor their last fixture in the campaign they have failed to qualifiers for the fourth time in the Country’s history.
BO Rangers has ten players in the provisional squad of the Leone Stars team, while East End have four players called up for training, FC Kallon three players in the provisional (31) squad, the likes of Mighty Blackpool have two players, while the other clubs like Old Edwardian, Port Authority FC, Diamond Stars FC, Lamboi FC, Wilberforce Strikers FC, Luawa FC, and Freetonians FC all have one player each to the provisional squad.
John Edward Keister and the Technical team are going to use this match to brace up for the World Cup qualifiers that are set to kick-Off in November’s first week.
Sierra Leone has over performed poorly in the World Cup campaign as they normally find it difficult to progress to the next round of the group stage.
In the last World Cup Campaign, Leone Stars were knocked out by Leon Stars of Liberia by three (3-1) goals in both legs of the Preliminary round of the qualifiers.
First-timers like Sallieu Bah, Juma Bah, and Ports Authority’s Joseph Cleveland, who missed the Nigeria match at the SKD Stadium in Liberia due to documentation, remain hopeful they’ll earn their eventual call-up.
Leone Stars are in the third position after playing five matches in the entire campaign.
